Green
power refers to electricity gathered from renewable energy resources
such as wind, solar, geothermal and hydropower. The word ‘green’
can represent many things, but in the wake of the unwise use of natural
resources it represents a fresh look at alternative energy. The options
for green power are becoming increasingly available to homeowners
and corporations. The U.S. government is encouraging decisions
to choose alternative energy plans.
The U.S. Department of Energy has established the Green Power Network
(GPN), which enables individuals and corporations to learn about green
energy alternatives the various markets, and providers under the Energy
Efficiency and Renewable Energy program (EERE). The goal of the EERE
is to strengthen the United States' energy security, environmental
quality, and economic vitality by making renewable energy more accessible.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EAP) is also making it easier
for organizations to save energy while reducing their carbon footprints
through a plan called the Green Power Partnership (GPP). The GPP is
a voluntary program that enables organizations to implement green
energy possibilities by offering technical advice and helping them
to attain the resources necessary in order to become less reliant
on nonrenewable resources.
