In recent years, the solar pump has become an extremely popular method for pumping wells. Generally speaking, a solar pump is less expensive than a wind-powered pump. Because of their cost efficiency more and more people are beginning to use them as a viable alternative.

The only downside to a solar pump is that it obviously relies heavily on ample sunlight. This being the case, when it is overcast outside a battery pack may be necessary. If purchasing a battery pack is not an acceptable solution, hand-powered back up pumps are also possible solutions.

There are several types of solar pumps available in different sizes. Some are ideal for small yards with fountains while other larger models could be used to aerate a pond. In addition the flow rate from pump to pump will vary. This is allows one to purchase a solar pump specific to their needs.
